Toward Creating the Cities as Paradise: the Challenge of a Global Integrated Interactive Topology
EASTS has given researchers a forum where collaborative research work is facilitated by the free exchange of ideas and techniques between industries, universities, government and non government organization (NGO) and across many disciplines such as transport, urban planning, Physics, computers, social scientist and economics to look into the problem of design and planning of a futuristic global integrated multimodal transportation system in accord with principle of Ever-Advancing Civilization. An important aspect of our proposed collaboration under the framework of Ever-Advancing Civilization is the requirement of certain dynamic transformation in which the scientific inspiration and investigations can be consulted, acknowledge, promoted and administrated in order to meet the global needs in terms of mobility, safety, security, well being and customer satisfaction, scalability, environmental and economical sustainability. Such transformation requires fundamental change in the way we conduct our research, produce new models and impose new regulation.
The current methodology of transport and urban systems is based on construction theories of sense making. This is the process of active design that enables traffic engineers to transform a structureless (restrictly speaking) static random graph into complex transportation architecture. This approach has been highly successful in urban and engineering disciplines resulting in many novel and effective solutions to urban transport problems for some time at the local level. However, as the system size and complexity increases, it is becoming harder and harder to successfully apply the traditional methods for integration purposes due to factors such as time scale separation effects, emergence and scalability. For these reasons, the design and planning of a seamless EAST ASIA regional integrated transportation system require fundamental new approach.
Recent developments in complex network physics and non-extensive thermodynamics have led a number of researchers at EASTS community to begin preliminary feasibility investigation into alternative transportation and urban system integration templates and models. EASTS IRG SCAFT is one of such research group commissioned by EASTS community to look into the design and planning of global integration transportation using the methods from complex gradient network and non-extensive thermodynamic physics.
Since its inception in 2005, IRG SCAFT has published a significant number of original research setting new standards for large scale integration systems.
IRG's research member group includes specialized scientists, physicists and civil Engineers, who have pioneered many new methods in their respectieve fields and with the gesture of humility striving to contribute their share toward Building an ever advancing civilization.
